Bonn: Rhineland knowledge location
Bonn is located on the shore of the Rhine in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is the birthplace of the world-famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven, and during the Beethoven festival, many famous orchestras play their music in the city. Bonn is a true culture city, sporting many museums and historical buildings. With more than 300,000 inhabitants, Bonn is a city of average size. From 1949 to 1990 Bonn was the capital of the former West Germany. Today, there are many buildings in the city that have played an important role in modern history. Palaces such as the Kurfürstliches Schloss are interspersed with ultra-modern constructions, such as the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle. If you’ve had enough of the rich culture, you can visit the city park of Rheinaue in the city centre. This park was created in 1979 for the National Gardening Show and is now a popular place to relax.
Promenade along the Rhine
The city centre is perfect for a day of shopping, enjoying a nice dinner or taking a walk along the Rhine. With the ‘Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität’, Bonn hosts one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the country, accommodating no fewer than 30,000 students and 7000 staff members. It should come as no surprise, then, that the nightlife of the city has a lot to offer. An event location with a twist.
